only severe weather but snow. snow across the rockies and the northern plains. satellite radar imagery right now fairly quiet. we have a system offshore that will bring rain along the gulf coast. we have a low pressure system across the great lakes, bringing some light rain and/or light snow, and then several storms systems moving in from the northwest that are going to move into the central u.s. and bring us the threat for more strong storms. unfortunately you can see some of that rain and snow moving into the northern rockies and eventually into the northern plains tonight for several inches of snow, so as we go through sunday, you can see we're seeing 6 to 12 inches, maybe even higher amounts. the potential for severe weather across the central u.s. and waiting in the wings, another low pressure that's going to bring more snow to the central rockies including you in denver where temperatures will drop some 30 degrees over the next couple of days. so a severe threat starting tomorrow for parts of oklahoma, through kansas, and then it's
3:08 pm
going to stretch into portions of arkansas, up towards mo and illinois, and then wednesday, even thursday the threat for severe weather, there's wednesday's threat for parts of texas in through oklahoma and then some of the same areas, of course, that were hit from last week's round of storms. severe weather not only on the agenda here. we could see the potential for winter weather across the northern plains, the northern rockies, the upper midwest. we could also see some ice here, freezing rain advisories for parts of south dakota. so why spread 6 to 12 inches of more snow on top of the snow that we saw last week. in some areas, higher amounts, especially over the rockies and in towards the northern plains. so unfortunately still winter in a lot of places, and with that cold air comes the threat for severe weather starting tomorrow through the end of next week. back to you, rick. >> all right, janice. nice to see you. janice dean in the weather center. the on line virtual currency called bit coins taking a big

3:23 pm
attention to is the end of this crisis, north korea is going to be accepted as a country that has nuclear weapons. that's what they wanted all along. once they have nuclear weapons, what does that do? south korea's already said they think they should have nuclear weapons. japan, public opinion polls show the japanese feel they should potentially go nuclear. i agree with you. i don't think the north koreans are going to i can with a up tomorrow and say -- are going to wake up tomorrow and say let's nuke san francisco. they'll sell the weapons to iran. we know they buy north korean missiles and you can see in a short order the iranians buying them from north korea and the irananciranias have to look at t happened and say if the world isn't going to stop north korea, that pipp squeak country from getting weapons, nobody will stop up. >> finish your thought there. i didn't mean to interrupt you.

the next thing you see is what? >> i think what happens is if iran gets nuclear weapons, then the countries in the persian gulf get nuclear weapons, saudi arabia, egypt, turkey. you have a world within the decade of a lot more nuclear powers and not necessarily stable, responsible countries where we can be assured that those weapons won't get used. i think it really makes the likelihood of them being used go up exponentially. >> we saw pictures of ahmadinejad. he's got to be loving the fact that all eyes, at least in this country, are on north korea. gives him a chance to try to take advantage of us being distracted, right? >> absolutely, and you're so right to point that out, because just this past week there was a five-party group meeting in kazakhstan about iran's nuclear weapons program. guess what? no progress. in fact, the iranian leaders came out and said nobody is going to stop iran's nuclear program, so i think they really

3:34 pm
they want to expand their businesses. they want to profit. i think the reason they're not actually turning those openings into hired employees is that unfortunately we've made it that much harder and more expensive for employers to hire employees. you know, effect the posted salary you see. it costs an employer anywhere between one and a half and three times an employer's salary -- an employee's salary to bring them on board. then, of course, you add onto that the taxes, the business regulations, environmental regulations, obama care, and the nrlb. essentially we've made hiring, especially a full-time employee, too much of a risk. >> what would make these companies more willing to hire? >> i think more than anything, it's economic freedom. in a free economic there's actually an unlimited amount of jobs, an unlimited amount of wealth that can be created. a lot of folks on the left and the right have pointed back to the clinton 90s boom economy as something to fashion ours against.
3:35 pm
that wasn't an economy, however, defined by higher taxes but lower regulation, and actually a respect for business, not an antagonism and an animosity toward business but an environment that thought business creators were doing something positive for the economy. a lot of business leaders, especially those who have deep pockets to make hires, quite simply feel they've been painted as the enemy. they're guilty before anything happens, and for that reason, they're reluctant to actually put money on the line and take the risk in hiring new workers. >> jonathan, yesterday on happening now, sally coan was on. listen to what she had to say and we'll talk about it on the other side. >> you have private corporations that are sitting on two trillion dollars in unspent money. they're choosing to not create jobs and instead grow the stock market, grow profits, line the pockets of their ceos and regular folks, working folks, their wages are going down and fewer and fewer of them have jobs. >> jonathan, you say what?
3:36 pm
>> well, i wish we were growing the stock market even more. i mean, the stock market is about the one positive thing we have. of course, a growing stock market doesn't just benefit fat cat ceos. it benefits everyone including new companies trying to raise money to hire individuals. there's no natural antagonism between ploifers an employers a. both want the economy to flourish. we've given the upper hand to the employees, not the employers. loosen the shackles on them not only so the i stock mact contins to rise so unemployment comes down. >> so is it good, jonathan, that the dow jones closed friday at close to 15,000? >> exactly. this is probably the one o one d leading indicator we have. we don't see it in jobs. we're starting to see the market, the stock market obviously hit new all time highs. this is a positive harbinger, and despite a long period of high unemployment, you know, long term unemployment has doubled under the president,

sides begin looking more and more like outliers, we might actually restore at least a tiny bit of confidence in government. so i'm all for it. it's one of those things where you, know, who cares why they're doing it. >> exactly. exactly. >> maybe they're just doing it to collect more money and make sure they get to stay there. but if it allows for some progress and allows for some honest debate, look, this gun control bill, it's a modest bill. i think people on all sides will tell you that. it's not fundamentally changing the ground play here on guns, but the fact that we could take even a modest step together and maybe in the background deal with some of the mental health issues which really are vital to these background checks, it means, you know, maybe congress can work a little? that would be good. >> yeah. it would be good. listen, the political jury, the public injury, i should say, is still out. let's look at a recent poll, a gallup poll regarding
3:46 pm
congressional approval remaining in a slump. 15% are approving the job that congress is doing which is still a whopping 79% saying guys and gallons, get it together up there, so they have work t to be double play. let's take a look at another big issue, immigration. we'll break it down for a second. susan, the key issues that you think might most likely be agreed upon across the political spectrum. we're getting some progress on the farm worker issue, on those who come here and work in agriculture. i say there's a deal, it looks like, for those folks. i think ultimately, you know, the republican party was out here in hollywood meeting this week which in itself was a big deal. republicans in hollywood? i mean, wow. and the question was well, are you out there just as a symbolic move, or are you actually going to address some of these issues like immigration in a somewhat different way. as you say, art, the jury is still out.
3:47 pm
if we can make modest progress on guns, if we can get a deal at least as respects to agriculture workers, then maybe, maybe, we can get from 80% disapproval to 70%. >> right. yeah. >> it would be progress. >> listen. we need those guys and ladies to work for us. after all, we put them there in their jobs. let's talk about this, putting politics aside as we continue. let's talk about immigration and timing. you know, you hear some people saying we need to get this thing happening and pass new laws quickly. do you think that the honest time needs to be applied to this to, you know, cross the ts and dots the is before putting something in the books? >> well, i don't think it's going to happen overnight. i mean, really, i think politics is going to dominate. there's going to be a bunch of republicans sitting there, frankly, trying to calculate where and how far they have to go to begin to break the hold
3:48 pm
that the democratic party has on hispanic voters in this country. the impetus for this movement is politics. it's the recognition that, frankly, barack obama in a very real way owes this reelection or at least a chunk of it to the hispanic vote. republicans, if they want to get back in the white house, which they do, are going to need to break that hold. so i don't think it's going to happen overnight. i think there's going to be a lot of debate, art. there's a lot of people who are saying hold on a main, you know. why should people who came to the country illegally get ahead in line over those who played by the rules, so there's a lot of complicated issues. even putting aside the politics about how you do a bill that's fair. that's going to take time. at least people can start working together, and who knows? we might actually make progress. >> that would be a good thing. thank you for acknowledging my comment, about the revolution
3:49 pm
